Dr. Kohlmeier is the director of Spokane Osteoporosis and Endocrine Associates of Spokane. She is on the executive board for the Washington Osteoporosis Coalition and the editorial review board for the Journal of Clinical Densitometry. She is on the board for the Advances in Mineral Metabolism (AIMM/ASBMR) meeting and directs their annual AIMM ski race which she started almost 10 years ago. Dr Kohlmeier also founded and directs the annual non-profit Strides for Strong Bone Race, and co-founded one of the first triathlons for osteoporosis awareness, the Westplains Wunderwoman Triathlon, both in Medical Lake, Washington every August. She and her team of volunteers provide osteoporosis education and bone density screening at the events, and have over twenty osteoporosis triathlon teams competing with over 800 other women each year.

She received her undergraduate degree at Yale University and her medical degree at Stanford University. She completed her internal medicine residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School and returned to Stanford for her endocrinology fellowship. Both at Stanford and following her fellowship, she was involved in osteoporosis research studying hip fracture and vitamin D deficiency.
