Janet Alexander

Ms. Alexander, is a 30-year veteran of the health and fitness industry and co-owner of The Chek Studio, Inc. in Encinitas, California. Originally from New Zealand, she moved to the USA in 1998 to work alongside Paul Chek, the founder of the C.H.E.K Institute and consequently was one of the first students in the world to graduate from Paul’s certification program as a Master C.H.E.K Practitioner. Janet is now a Senior Instructor of the C.H.E.K Advanced Training Programs and Golf Performance Series and a member of the C.H.E.K Institute Faculty. She has a diploma in physical education from New Zealand’s Otago University, a diploma in teaching from Dunedin Teachers College, is a C.H.E.K Level 3 Holistic Lifestyle Coach, is T.P.I Certified by the Titleist Performance Institute, and sits on the Titleist Advisory Board as a member of the Fitness & Exercise Board.

Her disciplined, scientifically based approach to strength and conditioning has helped mold her into a knowledgeable and sought after fitness professional and has allowed her to work with athletes at all levels, in a wide variety of sports. Working with the female athlete has become a focal part of her business, as Janet’s dedication and passion for the complexities of ‘being a woman’ in the field of strength and conditioning has garnered her clients, both amateur and professional, worldwide. Her progressive and creative program design has culminated in many wins for her athletes, including snowboarding medals at the Winter Olympic Games, wins on the LPGA and Futures Tours to name a few.

Another area Janet has expertise in, is the field of rehabilitation and corrective exercise. She has helped clients recover from a myriad of ailments such as complicated cervical and lumbar disc pathologies, hysterectomies and c-sections to the basic sprained ankle or fingers. Her attention to detail has allowed her clients to fully recover and return to activity.

Speaker and Consultant

As a popular fitness consultant and presenter, Janet has presented at both of Titleist’s World Golf Fitness Summits in 2008 and 2010. Her presentation in 2008 was titled, ‘Hormonal Implications of Being Female: How Menses affects Female Athletic Performance’ and in 2010 she presented, ‘Periodisation for Golf: Using the Science of Periodisation to Plan your Golfers Year’. She is also an Instructor for Titleist’s Level 3 Fitness Seminars and has appeared on the Golf Channel with Dr Greg Rose and Dave Phillips, founders of the Titleist Performance Institute.

Personal

Janet has a focused, holistic approach to wellness and health which she has used to her advantage as a successful competitive age group triathlete, runner, cyclist and cross country skier. Her taste for adventure has seen her race by bicycle from Cairo to Cape Town – achieving second place woman in 2007 and first placed woman Cairo to Ethiopia/Kenya border in 2008. Not satisfied with that achievement she has ventured into ultra-running and raced Marathon Des Sables in 2010, 2011 – a 250km/155miles 6 day stage race in Morocco and is looking forward to competing again in 2012.
